2021 New Jersey Psychological Association Mental Health Awareness Campaign: Agile Resilience

This year will be the fifth year in which NJPA will collaborate with NJPA affiliates and outside groups to develop a coordinated approach to promote the cause of mental health and the profession of psychology, as well as defining NJPA and our affiliates as a resource for mental health care issues throughout New Jersey.  The campaign will run April through July 2021; April: Minority Health Month, May: May is Mental Health Month, June:  Pride Month, July:  Minority Mental Health Month.

Resilience:  Psychologists define resilience as “the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, or significant sources of stress.”  Resilience involves “bouncing back” from these difficult challenges and experiences, and it can also involve “profound personal growth.”

Agility:  able to adapt and innovate by adding new practices to react to a crisis.

Our 2021 Mental Health Awareness Campaign will explore Agile Resilience throughout the diverse populations in our communities within New Jersey.  As we begin 2021, we continue to cope with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, racial and other injustices and the multiple crises and uncertainties of our times.  We will examine the diversity of culture, socioeconomic status, families, elderly, and youth and how each segment in society has built, can build or can enhance an agile response to coping with and living through these adversities how these tools can be applied to ones’ other life experiences.

NJPA will use these main platforms for the campaign:

1. Public Education through the NJPA E-Newsletter:
The digital publication will feature articles focused on #agileresilience.  This publication will circulate in May and will be posted on our social media pages and this website.  Take a minute to subscribe here and have it delivered directly to your inbox! Feel free to share with family, friends, and clients!

2.  2021 Mental Health Awareness Video Campaign:
NJPA, along with its local affiliates, is sponsoring a social media campaign for the 2021 Mental Health Awareness Campaign. The 2021 theme, #AgileResilience, will be used for this video campaign.  We encouraged New Jersey community members in schools, colleges, universities, institutions of faith, and community organizations, and members to submit a 1 minute video to discuss how they dealt with a difficult experience in their life, how they stayed resilient, and offer a positive message for others when confronted with adversity.  Winner to be announced at the Friday, April 30, 2021 NJPA Spring Conference, and the video will be shared shortly.
